Revealed: My perfect wedding cake

This month, instead of saying yes to the dress, I said yes to the cake! As someone who loves tea and cake it was important to me to have not only a visually stunning wedding cake but one that tasted totally delicious as well.

I was so lucky to have met Babs Whelan, who runs Barbie Bakes Cakes, at a wedding fair and was blown away when I sampled her work. Babs is based in Belfast but delivers all over Ireland. We decided on going for a tea pot cake along with a cake stand with cupcakes as part of the display.

I am very grateful to Babs who had a five hour round trip to deliver and a three hour set up time. The photographs speak for themselves and you can see the level of detail! We opted for three different flavours: Lemon, Victoria Sponge and Chocolate with Salted Caramel. It was nice having a selection of flavours so that there was something for everyone! I also had a small selection of gluten free cupcakes which were vanilla and chocolate chip.

She is a finalist this year in the Northern Ireland Wedding Awards and I have no doubt she will do well after the tasting the cake.
